​ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1. A bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by agencies recognized by NSU or equivalent education from a foreign university.

2. An overall GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale for the last 60 hours of course work. Official transcript should be submitted. (If GPA is between 2.5 and 3.0, a conditional admission is possible.)

3. An undergraduate background of a least 20 semester hours in the natural sciences or engineering.
 Official transcript should be submitted.
4. Two letters of recommendation

5. International applicants are also required to submit a score of not less than 550 on the paper based TOEFL or a comparable score of 213 on the computer-based TOEFL, with a minimum of 50th percentile on the Listening Comprehension Section.​

** No GRE requirement. It has been removed.

Steps to M.S. Natural Sciences Degree

1. Admission to NSU Graduate College.
2. Admission to M.S. Natural Sciences.
3. Identify Thesis or Capstone route for degree completion with Graduate Program Chair.
4. File degree plan with Graduate Program Chair (Dr. Sean Kim; kim03@nsuok.edu).
5. For thesis students, an advisory committee is formed during the first semester. Membership of the thesis committee is filed with Graduate Program Chair.
6. Meet candidacy requirements (see the next panel).
7. Apply for graduation. (one semester before your graduation)
8. Deliver Thesis or Capstone defense (whichever is applicable).

Candidacy requirements
. A GPA of 3.0 based on a 4.0 system for the last 60 hours of course work attempted; at either undergraduate or graduate level;
. Complete a minimum of 12 semester hours or a maximum of 18 hours of the degree as describe by the plan of study.
. Maintain a GPA of 3.0 in all graduate course work taken prior to candidacy.
. File a plan of study (degree plan) and Statement of Understanding as approved by the advisor (Graduate Program Chair) and the Dean of the Graduate College.
. Graduate students must select either the thesis or capstone routes for degree completion. Thesis students must form a graduate advisory committee consisting of the major research advisor and two other individuals.
. All plans of study (degree plan) are valid for only six (6) years. All graduate course work must be completed with six (6) years in order to be counted toward the degree excluding time spent in the Armed Forces.

Scholarship Opportunities


The Department of Natural Sciences will allocate graduate assistantships each semester. Graduate Program Chair will announce the opportunity. Fill the form to apply to 
Graduate assistantships, which will be awarded on a competitive basis.  Opportunities are available in both Broken Arrow and Tahlequah.

The Graduate College also provides graduate student scholarship opportunities. This scholarship application will put you in the running for academic tuition waivers and the majority of our privately funded foundation scholarships that pertain to graduate students. When completing the application, you will select "Graduate-Continuing" as your student type. Please visit the Graduate Funding and Scholarships page for additional graduate funding options.
